the ongoing online debate

dating gets harder with age. trust me, i know.

i'm turning 35 in less than 3 weeks and i have spent most of my teenage, young adult and adult years single. i'm not gonna lie, i don't have problems meeting guys, but finding a guy to date is a different story and finding a guy to be in a relationship with is an even bigger story.

now that i'm getting up there, options are wearing thin and time isn't on my side. this brings me back to the ongoing debate i've been contemplating about for quite some time... should i or shouldn't i join online dating sites?

(via)

what other options do i have?

long gone are the days of often painting the town red. i'd rather chill with friends and family at their house, but that makes it difficult to meet any potentials. no offense friends, but i already know all your friends. it's very unlikely i'll be meeting a dating option at your place.

the only other ways i can think of are:
  1. join online dating sites
  2. speed dating
  3. be more open to dating any Joe-blow off the street?
HELP! please?!
i want to know what you think!

should i online date? join several sites? go on many speed dates? focus my energy on my dating life as much as i focus on working out and work? is that even possible? or should i shift most of my efforts towards dating? what should my priorities be???

it's really up to you. there are no guarantees in online dating and even if you meet someone at the check-out counter or at your nearest church, you know what i'm saying?

when i did online dating, well, first of all, i wasn't looking (i knew that, a friend gave me a gift certificate) but i was hesitant because i didn't want to date. then my friend said not to focus on the word "dating" or "relationship" - just meet people. period. explore, pick and choose but don't think of each person you meet as "the one" cause it'll freaking make you go crazy when each time it doesn't work. i think that was a good advice she gave me. what do you think?

p.s.
i think your priorities should be what makes you happy - whatever that may be, and it doesn't have to be only one thing.

Reni: yes, that's great advice. online dating is just another way to meet people. now if only i can get someone to give a gift certificate, so that i'm forced to do it. LOL!

so how was your experience with online dating? how long did you do it for and did you actually meet some quality people?

Reni: p.s. working out makes me happy especially when i'm in the act of doing it. work makes me happy when i see the end result.

but i think i now need something with more substance to keep me happy.

to be honest, i'm really contemplating moving to a different city. i just need to figure out where and get a job there. plus i need to save funds if i'm going to change my whole life around.

i'm envious that you were able to do so.

I've done the online dating thing, and honestly, it wouldn't hurt to do it. Like Reni said, it's a GREAT way to meet people. Join a few sites, go on some dates, and see where it goes.

I met a few good men from online dating...but it just didn't work out with any of them. It wasn't a bad experience for me.

i know lots of ppl who did online dating but the thing they told me was you have to have no expectations. there are some great guys and some creeps but go with your go and just have fun. what the other ladies said is right - think of this as a way to meet new people and build friendships and if it turns to something more, all the better.

the peeps i knew did online dating (plenty of fish, lava, eharmony) and also speed dating. there are also some events where you do things like cook or wine tasting etc but the entire group are single people.

I say go for it. One of Gino's friends did online dating and they are both gorgeous people. They got married a year (or two) after they met and are now expecting their first baby. So you never know...

Give it a go and see how it works out for you. If not, there's always Vegas, I will be your wingwoman for sure. There just better be some eye candy!!!

Do it. Why not?

I've done the whole online dating thing. I tried match.com. It was fun and worth it. I didn't find Mr. Right, but I did find Mr. Right Now, which boosted my self-esteem dramatically. And this is not saying this will happen to you. You might find Mr. Right. I say try it. What's to lose?
